Organisms, Life Relations, and Evolution: Inter-Dependencies after Kropotkin's Mutual Aid

چکیده
We examine some implications of Kropotkin’s seminal work on mutual aid as a factor evolution to analyze how non-competitive life relations are understood in current biological theories. distinguish two research lines deriving from his work: one them studies intraspecific altruism and selfishness, the other is focused interspecific symbiotic relations. Furthermore, we use example pregnancy viviparity extend analysis novel interorganismic characters. conclude with conceptual review collaborations inter-dependencies among organisms shape individual autonomy sociability organismal evolutionary biology.

متن کاملMutual information, matroids and extremal dependencies
In this paper, it is shown that the rank function of a matroid can be represented by a “mutual information function” if and only if the matroid is binary. The mutual information function considered is the one measuring the amount of information between the inputs (binary uniform) and the output of a multiple access channel (MAC). Moreover, it is shown that a MAC whose mutual information functio...
متن کاملEmbodied Evolution and Evolution of Organisms
Before discussing the details of previous and similar systems it is useful to establish a framework for the type of systems in this thesis. A general scheme for traditional evolutionary robotics is displayed in Figure 2.1a. A population of μ candidates is maintained on an external computer. One by one each candidate genome is decoded into a controller and allowed to drive the robot a certain am...
متن کاملThe mutual information: Detecting and evaluating dependencies between variables
MOTIVATION Clustering co-expressed genes usually requires the definition of 'distance' or 'similarity' between measured datasets, the most common choices being Pearson correlation or Euclidean distance. With the size of available datasets steadily increasing, it has become feasible to consider other, more general, definitions as well. One alternative, based on information theory, is the mutual ...
